Vortrag: Eva Horn, »Beyond Simulation. An Aesthetics of Heat in the Age of Global Warming«
Talk given at MECS // Conference // June 25–26, 2015: Dealing with Climate Change. Calculus & Catastrophe in the Age of Simulation
Our knowledge of future climate behavior is ridden with epistemic difficulties that make it hard to translate this knowledge into specific scenarios or concrete calls for action. Yet they are a specific form of knowledge that needs to be taken into account. The problem, the philosoper Jean-Pierre Dupuy has argued, is not that we don’t know enough, but that we don’t believe in what we know. What is needed instead are forms and figures of an »aesthetics of heat« that could make palpable the consequences of a changing climate. The talk will present some of those aesthetic experiments in making us »feel the heat« of global warming.
